Case study: Giant, Canning vale

Located 22 kilometres south of Perth in Western Australia, Giant Canning Vale is a single store bicycle shop owned by Jodie and Jeff Appleton. The couple have run their business since 2022, catering to cyclists in the locality.

Although the store is a firm favourite within the cycling community, Jeff and Jodie knew their online store needed improvement to make buying easier for customers. They also understood that their current website was limiting potential online sales opportunities.

Whilst the business had a website, it was restrictive and difficult for visitors to view products.

There was also an issue with the limited range of stock available on the site, reducing what customers could order online.

In addition, stock levels on the ecommerce site didn’t sync with the Point of Sale system, so both areas of the business were operating as separate entities. As a result, it was difficult to track the movement of stock through the physical and online elements of the business. This had led to over and understocking product lines.

In comparison to other retail systems, Cloud POS offers an End-to-End solution, with the Point of Sale and website operating as one. It reconciles stock, both in-store and online, so Jeff and Jodie could monitor stock levels across the business in real-time. This would reduce the prospect of overstocking and entering manual updates into the POS.

With the website and Point of Sale working in tandem, customers would be better placed to see exactly what stock is available on the website, allowing them to place online orders and reserve purchases for click and collect.

Using Cloud Reports to identify the performance of stock and brands, Jeff and Jodie would be able to implement digital marketing campaigns to push slow-moving stock more effectively.

The integrated nature of Cloud POS would remove the need for multiple platforms, making operations simpler and easier to manage.

Since going live with Cloud POS, Jeff describes the change as nothing short of “transformative”.

The business has broken sales records with their Cloud POS Ecommerce site attracting new customers, including buyers who travel to Giant Canning Vale after finding stock online.

With detailed reporting tools, Jodie and Jeff can see which brands deliver the best margins so they can invest more strategically.

It also allows them to make smarter decisions on their Google Shopping campaigns, which Citrus-Lime runs on their behalf. Slow-moving stock that once gathered dust in-store now sells quickly when promoted online.

The business has expanded its focus beyond repairs and workshop work to boosting stock turnover and profitability without needing more staff.

Jodie and Jeff are delighted with the level of support they receive from Citrus-Lime, describing it as something they hadn’t experienced elsewhere.

Overall, the business is growing in both revenue and stockholding. The implementation of Cloud POS has made the business run better, faster and more efficiently than they ever expected.
