Case study: Spoke-N-Sport

Based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Spoke-N-Sport was experiencing limitations in selling through its website and its aging POS system. Already well-established in the bike market, Spoke-N-Sport had expanded into snow sports; an investment it was keen to see a return on.

While Spoke-N-Sport recognised the opportunity for its product range, it was aware of three key challenges:

✅ First, compared to the in-store results, Spoke-N-Sport’s website was delivering limited online sales

✅ Second, although the store was well established in the local area, it needed to market its bike and snow products further afield to capitalise on the growth opportunity

✅The third problem was that its POS hardware was nearing its end of life. Staying with its existing provider would have required a major investment in replacement servers and infrastructure

Having discussed Spoke-N-Sport’s goals and challenges, Citrus-Lime conducted a full website audit to identify where improvements in its ecommerce offer, in-store POS processes and Workshop could be made. The web design team worked closely with staff at Spoke-N-Sport to build a new, visually compelling and functionally robust website that would accommodate the cycle and snow product ranges.

Research was also undertaken to find solutions to attract potential customers from a wider geographic area. Once the site was built, Citrus-Lime’s Digital Marketing Team set about implementing Google Shopping campaigns to drive high-intent traffic to the website.

Within the first six months of Spoke-N-Sport’s new website going live, online revenue accounted for 21% of total store revenue. The improved ecommerce experience, combined with focused marketing, has helped Spoke-N-Sport attract a wider customer base and streamline the online buying journey.

The new website incorporates shipping options based on weight as opposed to being courier-specific. In doing this, Spoke-N-Sport can ship bikes, snow gear or accessories to customers across the US, reducing reliance on the local market.

By switching to Cloud POS, Spoke-N-Sport avoided the need to invest in costly new servers, saving several thousand dollars.
